I've been on Twitter for over 13 years and built my following list very carefully, identifying people from whom I could learn something.
Although the for you tab can get really random, but i have tuned it so that I mostly see the kind of posts I would find interesting. This is only possible by interacting with people whose posts I like and by telling the algorithm the posts which are not useful to me.
I’m glad I’ve tempted you not to give up on X. Another way of discovering others through Following is when people you follow reply to others--you get to see the original post as well as the reply by the person you follow.
Which takes me to a point you mention too: platforms like X are great when you interact with people and get to know them. Sometimes it’s tempting to just read posts and perhaps like or repost, but it’s so much better when I dive into a conversations via replies...
I’ve definitely noticed on all social platforms I enjoy myself more when I interact with others instead of lurking. It just requires more time and effort to do so. Thank you again for your tips! X is much more hit than miss now.
